From an island of your own to the ocean around it.
There is a moment on every private island stay when the last boat leaves the jetty and the sound of its engine fades into the reef. After that, the island is yours. The lagoon, the beach, the long evenings with nothing on the horizon but the next one.
Yet the sea that surrounds an island is part of its story too. In Rangiroa, the passes teem with life a short tender ride from the beach. In the Bahamas, the next empty cay is often only a few miles away. And for many guests, the question eventually arrives: what would it be like to see these waters from the deck of a yacht, or to own one that could carry you from island to island?
That is where The Yacht Collection comes in. We are pleased to introduce it as a partner to Private Islands, bringing yacht charter and yacht sales into the same conversation as the islands you already know through us.
Arriving by sea
Some of the most memorable island stays begin long before the island comes into view. A week aboard a yacht through the Exumas, ending at a private cay in the Bahamas. A slow passage across the Tuamotus before landing at Fara Iti. A charter through the Croatian islands, with a few nights ashore on an island of your own along the way.
The Yacht Collection presents a selection of yachts for charter chosen for the experience they deliver on board. For island journeys, that often means range, stability and a well-stocked toy store. Arya, a 40-metre ice-strengthened expedition yacht, carries a full dive store and a deck jacuzzi. King Benji, a 47-metre explorer, pairs genuine adventure credentials with a plunge pool on the bow. Both are built for places where the nearest marina is a long way off.
The destinations overlap naturally with ours. French Polynesia and the Bahamas, Greece and Croatia, and further afield the remote atoll of Aldabra in the Seychelles, a long way from anywhere and well worth the passage.
A yacht for island life
Owning a yacht that suits island life is a particular brief. It needs the range to reach places few others go, the autonomy to stay there comfortably, and the tenders and toys to make the most of the water once you arrive.
The Yacht Collection was built around that kind of thinking. Rather than presenting every listing available, it focuses on yachts chosen for their quality, character, pedigree and ownership potential. Long-range explorers sit alongside Sunreef catamarans, whose shallow draft and generous beam make light work of lagoons and reef-fringed anchorages. Royal Huisman and Sanlorenzo bring pedigree and craftsmanship, while builders such as Axopar and Wajer offer fast, capable tenders for the island itself.
Brokerage yachts and new builds are presented side by side, with market insight and a buyer’s guide written to inform rather than persuade. The starting point is always the same: how you intend to use the yacht. A boat for exploring one lagoon is a very different proposition from one that can cross an ocean.
Why this partnership makes sense
Private Islands exists to make the most remote places feel effortless. We work with the owners, hosts and local agents who look after each island, from the lagoons of Rangiroa and Bora Bora to the Formiche off the Italian coast and Miavana in Madagascar, and we arrange the seaplanes, helicopters and jets that bring guests to them. The Yacht Collection brings the same kind of knowledge to the water, working with shipyards, brokers and crews across several oceans.
Both sit naturally within The S Collection. A family might spend a week on an island in the Bahamas, return the following winter aboard a chartered yacht to explore the cays around it, then begin talking to The Yacht Collection’s brokers about a catamaran of their own. Each step is handled by people who understand the one before it.
Nothing about the way you book an island with us changes. What changes is how far the journey can go.
What this means for you
If you are planning time on an island of your own, we are here as always. If you would like to arrive by yacht, or spend a week at sea before or after your stay, we can introduce you to The Yacht Collection’s charter team. And if you are thinking about ownership, their brokers will help you compare the yachts that matter, with honest advice on how each would suit the way you like to travel.
Tell us where the idea begins. We will take care of the introductions.
An island is wonderful for disappearing. A yacht is how you choose which island to disappear to next.
